ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE

Bernadette Fam

PYT Fairfield is excited to announce our 2020 Artist-in-Residence, Bernadette Fam. Bernadette is an emerging Arabic-Australian theatre maker, director, writer and creative producer. Since graduating from Sydney Theatre School in 2017, she has been a member of the PYT Ensemble 2019, NToP’s Playwrights of Parramatta, KXT’s Step Up and DTC’s Emerging Theatre Makers. She is also the Associate Creative Producer for Green Door Theatre Company.

Some of her recent credits as an actor and theatre maker include: Poo Shame, Vagina Curiosity and Other Things That Won’t Kill You (Edinburgh Fringe Festival), Spider in my Soup (Shopfront ArtsLab/Bondi Feast) and Swimming Pool (PYT, Fairfield).

As a writer Bernadette is currently developing Middle Where? (Create NSW’s Young Creative Leader’s Fellowship) and recently attended The National Studio (Australian Theatre for Young People).

During her residency Bernadette will explore the experiences of first-generation Australian children and their discoveries about their parent’s past.

COMPANY-IN-RESIDENCE

Dance Makers Collective 

In 2020, Dance Makers Collective (DMC) are in residence at PYT two days a week. DMC are Western Sydney’s only professional dance company, established in 2012 to provide a platform for independent dance makers to collaborate and develop dance works. DMC have a unique working model where all 9 members contribute to the making, performing, producing and community engagement arms of the company. DMC offer bespoke dance programs for schools and seniors groups and facilitate Future Makers, a dance company for young people providing performance opportunities and skills development for dance makers 15-24.  In 2020 DMC will present their newest work The Rivoli at Sydney Festival, a large-scale site-specific performance at Granville Town Hall about social dance culture, and will tour their Australian Dance Award shortlisted work DADS nationally. The team of DMC are Matt Cornell, Anya McKee, Sophia Ndaba, Katina Olsen, Marnie Palomares, Melanie Palomares, Carl Sciberras, Miranda Wheen & Rosslyn Wythes.

PROJECT RESIDENCY

Erin Middleton

Under the mentorship of director/ writer/ dramaturg Anthea Williams, emerging playwright Erin Middleton is developing her second play. As yet untitled, the work will be a modern, female-focused reimagining of the Ancient Greek myth of Medusa, exploring its links to contemporary female experiences of beauty, the body, power, and rage.
