ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE ANNOUNCEMENT
PYT would like to congratulate Juan Guillermo Robayo Gomez on being selected as our 2024 Artist-in-Residence recipient.
Juan will be working with our producers to develop a multidisciplinary project combining dance, theatre, and video exploring the sacred Peyote ceremony, traditionally practiced in North America and will consult with indigenous elders to learn about similar ceremonies practiced by Australian aboriginal communities.
Juan Guillermo is a multidisciplinary artist from Colombia who graduated from the National University of Colombia’s film school and has a Master’s in Fine Arts in Spain and film studies in the UK. His performance Sombras Sonoras was showcased at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid. Juan Guillermo has exhibited his art in galleries across Spain and Colombia. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, he independently produced the cinematic series Devuélveme la Noche (Give Me Back the Night!), which has garnered cultural funding and premiered at global festivals, including the Berlin Series Festival. It has won awards at the Apulia Web Fest and Cusco Web Fest. He also created and produced the animated children’s series Airuna, honored as Best Latin American Animated Series at the Cusco Web Fest for its themes inspired by Latin American indigenous cosmogony.
