Expression of Interest: Bradfield City Creative Activation Program

PYT Fairfield is seeking submissions of interest for artists to contribute to three creative programs  to be delivered by PYT, as the Bradfield City’s First Building creative producer.

The First Building houses the Advanced Manufacturing Readiness Facility (AMRF), which offers world-class manufacturing support in Bradfield City, located in Australia’s manufacturing heartland, Western Sydney. It provides unparalleled access to cutting-edge technology, expertise, training, and networks in world-class manufacturing to help businesses innovate, scale, and stay ahead in a competitive market. The facility provides world-leading manufacturing development support, builds sovereign capability and solidifies Australia’s position as a global key player.

This is the First Building within Australia’s newest city, the first to be built in 100 years. The city of Bradfield is named after John Bradfield, the lead engineer of the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

PYT’s focus is to celebrate this new building as a beacon of engineering innovation and, using the arts, create a unique and intriguing attraction for the new city. To do this, PYT will work directly with an advisory council of passionate tertiary students across the Arts and STEM fields from Western Sydney.

About PYT Fairfield
PYT Fairfield is a creative organisation embedded in Western Sydney. While we focus on young and/or emerging performance artists as our core practice, this opportunity is open to artists of all forms and all levels of practice. At PYT Fairfield, our portfolios cut across three key areas:
– new theatre and live performance,
– creative education and professional development,
– and community arts programming.

This project sits proudly within our community arts programming portfolio, continuing our legacy of supporting artists, educators, and communities to come together through impactful and original arts experiences.

About the NextGen S.T.E.A.M Council
The NextGen S.T.E.A.M. Council are a group of 6-8 young STEM and Arts tertiary students who will act as innovation ambassadors, bridging creativity, community-engagement and STEM. Their role is to inform Bradfield Creative Producer’s, PYT Fairfield, on innovative ways to include STEM in a series of art activation events held in the new aerotropolis city of Bradfield and its first building, the Advanced Manufacturing Readiness Facility (AMRF).

The NextGen S.T.E.A.M. Council will do this by:
– Acting as co-curators of PYT’s activations
– Championing the activations by acting as Cultural Ambassadors for the First Building
– Act as Ambassadors on the main activation days

Help develop unique and insightful bespoke tour opportunities

The Activations
PYT Fairfield will focus initially on delivering three activations between 2025 and 2026:

November 2025 – Women Who Launch (WWL)
WWL is a two-day indoor community gathering celebrating Australia’s women in STEM, honouring pioneers like Nancy Bird Walton, Australia’s first female commercial pilot whom the new Western Sydney airport is named after. The WWL event will invite local schools, education and industry audiences to celebrate with an exhibition and performance program throughout the building. The spaces we plan to activate include:
– Central Atrium
– Boardroom
– Visitor Centre and workshop space
– Outdoor Garden

We are looking for projects, ideas, or concepts that:
– Are by or for Women
– Celebrate women in STEM, especially those from Australia
– Encourage young women to engage in STEM
– Works that connect STEM and the arts

Tinker Touring (TT) (Ongoing)
TT is a series of boutique tours and accompanying workshop experiences for school and community groups, including industry and hobbyists. We’re looking for a series of lesson plans and touring programs at the intersection of STEM and the arts. The lessons will be delivered as workshops by young facilitators directly after a tour of the building and/or manufacturing hall. TT will activate spaces such as:
– Central Atrium
– Boardroom
– Visitor Centre

We are looking for ideas and concepts that use the tour of the building and/or manufacturing hall and then amalgamating it in an exciting and surprising way. We want participants walking away feeling inspired, viewing STEM and the Arts as the engine of innovation, together. Some examples could include:
– Combining Robotics and Dance
– Sculpture and Engineering
– Mathematics and Aesthetics

June 2026 – ColliderFest (CF)
CF is a full day festival of STEAM for the whole family, full of interactive installations, performances, and experiments. This is an open community event and we’re looking for activations across all forms of art-making and experimentation, especially those at the intersection of STEM and the arts. CF will activate spaces such as:
– Central Atrium
– Boardroom
– Visitor Centre
– Outdoor Garden
– Western Forecourt
– Viewing Platform
We are looking for a collision of worlds, fun, and scientific, creative and thought-provoking.

Ownerships & Copyrights
Please note that any visual art works created specifically for these activations will be acquired by the Bradfield Development Authority (BDA) and will be stored by BDA, unless an alternative loan arrangement is agreed upon in advance. If you are proposing an acquired or loaned work, please indicate this in your Expression of Interest application.

What We’re Looking For
We invite proposals in visual arts, performance (dance/poetry/theatre), installation, and immersive or interactive works. We especially welcome artists working at the intersection of arts and STEM and projects with bold, surprising or participatory elements.

Submit Your Proposal
To submit a proposal, please complete the form Monday 21 July, 5pm. Please note that we are looking for ideas/concepts and/or ready-to-go works. The idea does not need to be fully formed, and there will be an opportunity to further discuss the work with PYT’s staff and the NextGen STEAM Council if it is suitable for any of the programs.
