Motion Pictures
is a new festival in Western Sydney that aims to support the development and presentation of ambitious screen-based work. With a focus on fostering emerging artists and filmmakers, Motion Pictures looks towards the future of cinema in a region undergoing significant transition.

Directed by Kate Blackmore and David Capra, Motion Pictures is a unique cinematic event that pays tribute to Australian film industry pioneer A.J. Beszant and his dedication to building culture and community cohesion through cinema in Sydney’s western suburbs.

Motion Pictures will launch in Fairfield in April 2015 with a pilot event showcasing:

+ A selection of short films by young Western Sydney filmmakers as part of the inaugural Beszant Award, hosted by Craig Anderson (director, Black Comedy, Double the Fist).

+ Presentations by Tim Chappel (costume designer, The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert), Ali Kadhim (filmmaker and Parkourist, Team 9Lives), John Kirkman (Executive Director, ICE) and Maria Tran (actor, director and producer, Maximum Choppage).

+ Video art by renowned Australian artists Shaun Gladwell, Soda_Jerk, Angelica Mesiti, Tracey Moffatt, Sean Rafferty and Khaled Sabsabi.

+ A performance by electronic media artist Pia van Gelder in an abandoned Fairfield cinema.
